Patna, Nov 17 : Congress on Friday declared that special status would be granted to Bihar if I.N.D.I.A was voted to power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Congress MLC Prem Chandra Mishra told media persons here that the special status demand was a genuine one being raised by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on several occasions since long.
A resolution demanding special status for Bihar was also unanimously passed in both Houses of the Bihar Legislature, he added.
” If I.N.D.I.A is voted to power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bihar would be granted special status category”, Mishra said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to grant special status to Bihar during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections but did not take any single step so far. Now only a few months are left for the PM to be in office, he pointed out.
As it is, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has resumed raising the demand of special status for Bihar recently. The issue assumes significance in view of the coming Lok Sabha elections.
