Bhubaneswar, Nov 4 : As a Go-Green initiative, the state- of-the-art Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has introduced the use of Metal Saddles for dispatch of HR Coils on Railway Wagons, an alternative to Timber Items.
This is a step towards sustainability and responsible steel making by reducing carbon footprints,RSP sources said.
It is worth mentioning that, as a part of the Comprehensive Packaging & Dispatch Contract placed on M/s SLTT; HSM-2 has dispatched the first consignment of HR Coils with Metal Saddles on Railway Wagons.
One Rake with a total of 18 wagons having 44 coils with metal saddles and another rake with a total of 16 wagons having 35 coils with metal saddles have been dispatched to SGTY, Kolkata and SSYS, Kolkata destination respectively.
Currently 25 percent of the total HR Coils dispatch by Rail has been envisaged for dispatch with Metal Saddles.
The event was inaugurated by RSP ED (Works) S R Suryawanshi on Saturday in the presence of other senior officials of the plant.
Suryawanshi praised HSM-2 collective and associated departments for this go-green initiative which will play a substantial role towards the vision of Green Steel.
RSP sources said the initiative not only is a bigger step towards sustainability but also will be a cost-effective solution, where the HSM-2 collective will work on the vision to replace the use of Timbers to the maximum.
