As assessed earlier in the columns of this news portal, the countdown for the Aam Admi Party(AAP) has virtually started.
And, seen politically, the timing of the roll call by the Enforcement Directorate is exactly in tune with the political goals of its opponent.
In the face of the Supreme Court judgment on Monday denying bail to former Delhi Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, an hour later the ED summon to Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal the same day is bound to have a painful bearing on the AAP and in nut shell, one of the most frustrating twists months before the 2024 polls.
It may be recalled that, after Satyendra Jain in jail, the beeline of AAP leaders worthy of attention were seen packed in cells.
The most noticeable was that of the arrest of the former Deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia in the alleged Delhi Excise Scam imbroglio which has subsequently transformed into a regular media takes in installments.
After six months almost Sisodia still without a bail regardless of the evidences for the prosecution which the Supreme Court on Monday called substantially ‘tentative’.
Tentative, a word which has several connotations to be accommodated in a strict legal format.
Then Sanjay Singh went to jail making it a one way entry for the rest of lots in the AAP.
Lastly, as apprehended the chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned already by the ED on Nov.2.
Although the outcome from the probe is not ascertained but the AAP has the fear that,November 2 can be last day of freedom for Kejriwal as he may be arrested on that day without wasting any further time.
Left back in the fort is Delhi minister Atishi and Gopal Rai worthy of recall.
In that situation the poser before all political ‘pundits’ is what would be the constitutional lee way for the AAP? Will they be able to go to the 2024 polls or be stayed put in the jails giving a walk over to BJP or the Congress.
