Low Pressure over Bay of Bengal, IMD predicts rains in Odisha for five days
Bhubaneswar,Sep 18 : A Low pressure area is likely to be formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during next 48 hours ,IMD sources said on Monday and predicted rains in several districts of Odisha for five days.
It said a cyclonic circulation lies over Northeast & adjoining East Central Bay of Bengal and extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level.Under its influence, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood during next 48 hours.
The Monsoon Trough at mean sea level now passes through Jaisalmer, Ajmer, Shivpuri, Sidhi, Daltonganj, Digha and thence south east to Eastcentral Bay of Bengal.Current meteorological features indicated widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over some districts of Odisha during next 4 days.
Also, thunderstorms with lightning activity are very likely during the next 2 days and IMD has advised people to take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning.Under the impact of the low pressure light to moderate rain/ thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha and also most places over the districts of interior Odisha and at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha.Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada.
The IMD has issued yellow warnings to these districts.Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over as many as 22 districts in Odisha.
The IMD has also issued Orange warnings to the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh where heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at a one or two places.There is possibility of water logging in low lying areas, inundation of agriculture fields in the districts under orange warnings where there is a possibility of some damage to informal/Kutcha road, wall collapse of vulnerable kutcha houses and possibility of Landslides/ mudslides in vulnerable hilly areas.
