Odisha: Paika Academy & Research Centre to come up in Khordha
Bhubaneswar, Sep 8 (UNI) A Paika Academy and Research Centre will be established in Odisha’s Khordha district for promotion and propagation of Paika Culture and traditions in the country and abroad.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday approved a proposal to set up Odisha Paika Academy and Research Centre.
The centre, official sources said, will be developed on the lines of KeluCharan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre, under the Odia Language, literature and Culture department of the Odisha government for the collective development of the proud Paika traditions.
At present, the centre will function from Gada Khordha for a temporary period. The Chief Minister directed the Khordha district collector to select the site and to prepare a DPR for the centre soon.
Teachings will be imparted through a special syllabus for the overall development of Paikas. There will also be provision for training and research. Provision for scholarship for the students has also been made.
The Chief Minister hoped that the Paika Academy and Research Centre will help in the promotion and propagation of Paika Culture and traditions in the country and abroad.
According to Historians, the Paika Revolution, first uprising against the Britishers was reported in Khordha under the leadership of Baxijagabandu in 1817.
Patnaik said the Paika Academy and the Research centre will work to keep this great Paika tradition alive and for more research in this direction.
