Iti Samanta helmed documentary ‘Sea and Seven Villages ‘ was an artistic throw back to the catastrophic Cyclones those visit Odisha and the intertwined tales of pathos and sufferings for years, has been selected for Screening at Kerala Film Festival.
Presented by Dr Achyut Samanta ‘Sea & Seven Villages’ has been adjudged purely on creative aspect for screening at the 15th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala to be held from August 4 to 9, 2023.
National Award-winning Docu film director Himanshu Khatua has directed the documentary. He is also heading the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), West Bengal as its director.
The documentary is based on the fears of climate change and its impact on Satabhaya, highlighting how the rising sea level, coastal erosion, frequent cyclones and mismanagement of coastal land have destroyed homes, agricultural land and entire settlements comprising seven villages along the Bay of Bengal in the Kendrapada district of Odisha.
Vivid portrayal
In one stroke the menacing sea fury in 1971 cyclone just swept away five villages leaving no shreds of humanity to scramble upon and so devastating was the oceanic invasion that, till date even a mild wind at night sends the remaining villagers at Satavaya running out from their beds.
Repeat reminder, stay with or perish
The film stands as a repeat reminder for the humans that stay with the nature, or perish.
Else history will never forgive the humanity as nature always restores itself but, with a terrifying vengeance like is manifested in Satavaya.
The film festival serves as a brilliant platform for showcasing classic repertoires of many genius film makers from home and abroad.
