London, July 6 : British wild card Liam Broady staged an upset, knocking out No.4 seed Casper Ruud in the second round of Wimbledon Championships here on Thursday.
Ruud had not received a rude shock at the hands of a player ranked as low as Broady anytime in his career so far, but he has not been a favourite on grass courts either.
A three-time Grand Slam finalist, Ruud conceded the first set to the Briton in 46 minutes, but drew level in the second set. The third and the fourth sets went about the same way, before Broady raced past the Norwegian 5-0 in the final set.
Broady nailed the last nail into Ruud’s chances of progressing further in a battle lasting three hours and 27 minutes.
The Briton now faces No.26 seed Denis Shapovalov in the third round.
