Tragic: Old couple commits suicide by making arrangements for their funeral pyre

Kolhapur, June 22: Fed up with illness, a couple committed suicide on Thursday by hanging themselves and making all the preparations for their funeral pyre in their field, at Wetvade village in Panhala tehsil of this district, Police sources said.

According to Panhala police, a deceased couple identified as Mahadev Dadu Patil (75) and his wife Dwarkabai (70) were both affected by prolonged illness and took the extreme step of committing suicide for release from their illness.

Both decided to make all the preparations for their own funeral pyre so as not to cause any difficulties to their relatives and put all materials in their field first, then came to their residence and committed suicide by hanging themselves by rope.

This incident came to light this morning when their son went to wake up them.

Police investigating further.
