Patna, June 16 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday reiterated his prediction that Lok Sabha elections would be held this year instead of April 24.
Kumar told media persons here that BJP was nervous over the growing activities of opposition
parties for national level unity across the country.
BJP was apprehensive of the huge electoral losses after movement of opposition parties got momentum, he noted.
“In this scenario, BJP government could opt for holding Lok Sabha elections this year itself instead
of April 24 as scheduled,” Chief Minister said adding that the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari
Vajpayee had also decided to go for Lok Sabha elections, three to four months before the scheduled date.
It was a different matter that Vajpayee was not in favour of holding Lok Sabha elections before the scheduled date but some BJP leaders had forced him to do so, he pointed out.
Kumar said that any government at the Centre with full majority had the right to hold Lok Sabha elections earlier than scheduled.
During a function recently, he had just indicated the possibility of early Lok Sabha elections, he quipped.
He had already cautioned that it would be great electoral advantage if opposition parties at national level contested together next Lok Sabha elections, he pointed out.
