Odisha Train Tragedy: 82 Bodies Yet To Be Identified, Claimants Waiting For DNA Test Report
Bhubaneswar, June 8: Even five days after the horrific train accident at Bahanaga Bazar Railway station as many as 119 injured passengers are still undergoing treatment in SCB Medical College and hospital, Cuttack.
Friday’s disastrous train accident involving the Shalimar -Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru -Howrah Superfast Express and a Goods train on June 2 last, had claimed 288 lives while more than 1,000 passengers were injured, some of them critically.
Official sources said 201 injured passengers were rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack and till Wednesday while 82 have been discharged from the hospital 119 injured persons
are still undergoing treatment in Orthopaedic, Ophthalmology, Surgery and Neurosurgery departments.
Special Medical teams have been formed to take care of the patients. Sources said 14 of the 119 patients are in ICU Bhubaneswar Municipal Commissioner Bijay Amrut Kulange said out of the 193 bodies brought to Bhubaneswar, 82 bodies have not yet been identified.
The BMC Commissioner said a DNA test is being done to verify and identify the bodies in case a dispute arises over the claim of the body..
He said, ‘’We are also coordinating with the officials of various state governments including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Railway officials for the speedy identification and disposal of bodies
to their relatives. We are also trying to ensure that the right person gets the body, he said.
