Odisha train tragedy: CBI team seizes phones of railway employees on duty

Bhubaneswar, June 7: The CBI inquiring into the June 2 Bahanaga train tragedy has seized the phones of some of the Railway employees who were on duty on the day of the horrifying accident.

The train accident has so far claimed 288 lives and left over around one thousand injured.

Sources said the CBI team along with the Forensic and Technical team examined the main line,
loop line and seized the mobile phones of some of the employees who were on duty on the day
of the accident.

The team is likely to examine the call records, WhatsApp calls, messages and social media usage
of the staff during its investigation.

The CBI team arrived at the Bahanaga Bazar Railway station on Wednesday and spent nearly 45 minutes investigating the accident.

The team had visited the main line, loop line, signal room, control room and had held discussion
with some officials on Tuesday.

The CBI is inquiring into the incident on the basis of the recommendation made by the Railway Board. In addition to CBI, the Railway Safety Commission is also probing the accident.

Odisha Congress legislature party leader Narashingha Mishra however, has come down on
Railway Minister for CBI probe into the Bahanaga train tragedy.

He told newsmen that the CBI probe has been ordered only to misled and divert the attention of the people on the disastrous accident and demanded the resignation of Aswani Vaishnaw holding him responsible for the accident.

Meanwhile, the East Coast Railway has advised people looking for the body of their loved ones to visit only AIIMS, Bhubaneswar where the body has been kept in containers for identification.

AIIMS is now the only hospital where the relatives of the Bahanaga train accident need to reach to identify bodies. They need not go to any other hospital,the ECoR sources said.

Railway sources said after the first goods train, NMSL passed through the down loop line at Bahanaga Bazar station this morning.
Union Minister Bishweswar Tudu on Wednesday interacted with the patients and took stock of the health condition at SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar source said more than 39 bodies brought from Capital Hospital, SUM Hospital, KIMS Hospital, HITECH and AMRI hospital were kept in the refrigerated containers. So far the AIIMS , Bhuabneswar has received 162 dead bodies and 71 of them have been delivered to their relatives.
