Odisha: Cops Bust Highway Robbery Gang; 5 Held
Balasore: The Balasore police arrested as many as five members of a highway robbery gang on Sunday, Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Sagarika Nath informed.
Nath stated that the district police had formed a special squad to conduct an investigation in response to several reports of thefts on the national highway.
The suspects, who have been named as Gajendra Das, Dharmendra Parida, Ripun Jena, Suryakant Das, and Akash Lenka, have been accused of robbing commuters of their goods by threatening them with pistols or other weapons.
According to the SP, every person arrested has a number of charges pending against them at various police stations, and Gajendra is the accused with the greatest number of complaints pending. He is facing a total of 14 cases, compared to Dharmendra and Ripun who are each facing 9 and 8 cases respectively.
The Superintendent of Police stated that Akash Lenka and Suryakant Das each had three cases pending against them.
In addition to arresting the accused, Balasore police also seized items from their possession, including a car, pickup truck, laptop, two two-wheelers, two pen drives, ATM cards, four money purses, and 16 mobile phones.
The SP also informed that the other 3 members of the gang were also identified and actions were being taken to quickly nab them.
