Baripada: In a shocking incident, a youth was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten to death over suspicion of having an extra-marital affair in Kenduchatia village of Bhaliadiha panchayat under Betanoti police station limits in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday.
The youth, identified as Sunaram Tudu (25) of Gandigodha village, was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten up with wooden logs and bamboo sticks by two persons. The youth reportedly died on the spot.
He was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten up all night with wooden logs and bamboo sticks by one Jasaya Tudu and his son Bapun (Madhu) over suspected extra-marital affair with the former’s wife.
On Monday, during the dance that follows traditional Jahira puja Sunaram and Jasaya’s wife disappeared from the spot. Later Jasaya allegedly caught them in a compromising position at a secluded spot.
Furious, he along with his son Bapun caught hold of Sunaram and took him to the village where they tied him up to a tree with a rope and thrashed him mercilessly leading to his death on the spot.
On getting information, Betnoti SDPO Sudarshan Das and IIC Sasmita Mahanta along with a scientific team reached the spot and started investigation. “Police have detained both the accused for interrogation and probe is underway,” they said.
