The team got a big blow on the New Year, a strong player left the captaincy
With the beginning of the new year, big news has come from the cricket world. This news is related to Bangladesh cricket. The captain of Bangladesh cricket team has decided to leave his post. There was speculation for many days that Nazmul Hussain Shanto may leave the captaincy of the team in the shortest format of cricket. This has now been approved. Nazmul Hossain Shanto has decided to step down from the post of captain of Bangladesh’s T20I team. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed on 2 January.
Nazmul had earlier decided to step down from T20 captaincy after the 2024 World Cup, but later changed his mind and expressed his desire to resign from all three formats. His decision not to captain in any format was reversed after BCB president Farooq Ahmed’s involvement in the matter and the left-hander was named captain for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. There, he got hurt.
No announcement of new captain at present
Shanto finally told us that he will not captain in T20Is and we accepted it, a top BCB official told Cricbuzz. Since there is no T20I match right now, we have time and hence we are not choosing a new captain. He said that if there is no injury problem then Nazmul will remain the captain in Test and ODI and we have discussed it.
Will captain in Champions Trophy
It is believed that Liton Das, who had said that he was ready to take up the T20 captaincy for a long time after the 3-0 series win over West Indies, is ready to remain the captain in the shortest format. However, Nazmul Hasan Shanto will be seen captaining Bangladesh in the upcoming Champions Trophy. There was speculation that Mehdi Hasan could take charge of the team after being named as the stand-in captain for the Test and ODIs on the West Indies tour, where the regular captain was ruled out due to injury.
