Sunil Gavaskar took Rishabh Pant’s class in live match, now got the support of former cricketer
Rishabh Pant is known for his unique game but his unique style became a big problem for him in the Melbourne Test. In the first innings of the Boxing Day Test played in Melbourne, Pant was out while trying to play a strange shot. Pant often plays such shots and gets praise but this time he had to face criticism.
Batting great Sunil Gavaskar on Saturday criticized Pant for his ‘stupid’ shot in the first innings of the fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne. After this, after losing the fourth Test match by 184 runs, captain Rohit Sharma had said that this flamboyant wicketkeeper needs to understand what is expected of him. In the second innings, Pant was out on a short pitched ball from makeshift spinner Travis Head, due to which some people criticized him. Rishabh Pant is the target of many people after the crushing defeat in Melbourne. In such a situation, he has got the support of the former cricketer. Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar on Tuesday supported under-fire wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant, saying the focus should be on his failures and not on his shot selection.
Commenting on the ongoing debate over Pant’s shot selection, Manjrekar tweeted – Pant should be criticized only for his failures, not for how he fails. He averages 42 in Test matches and has at least three of the best innings played by an Indian. In 42 Test matches, he scored six centuries and scored more than 90 runs seven times. He is a great player who is not scoring enough runs and that is the essence of it.
It is noteworthy that Pant is struggling with batting in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. 154 runs have come from his bat in seven innings. The fifth and final match of the current series will now be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3. Australia leads 2-1 after wins in Adelaide and Melbourne while India won the first match of the series in Perth.
