Mitchell Starc: Big update on Starc’s play in the fifth test, fellow player said this on injury
Mitchell Starc Fitness: The last and fifth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia will be played on the Sydney grounds from January 3, 2025. The Australian team currently has a 2-1 lead in the series. Australia’s deadly fast bowler Mitchell Starc was suffering from rib pain since the third day of the Boxing Day Test, but still managed to bowl with the help of the team physio. Now his fitness remains a cause of concern for Australia. Will he play the fifth match of Border Gavaskar Trophy? Carey has given a big statement on this.
Alex Carey said – no need to worry
Australian wicketkeeper batsman Alex Carey said that he will be fine. It is expected that he will play the fifth test match. Australian selectors will take a decision on Starc’s fitness closer to the Test match, but Carey said he is not worried about his teammate’s fitness. I have been playing with him (Starc) for a long time. He is a strong player. Obviously he has a pain in his rib and it bothers him at times but I am confident that he will be ready to play by the next match.
It is important for Australia to play Starc
Australia will have to win or draw the fifth Test match to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy after 2014-15. On the other hand, it needs just one win to reach the final of the World Test Championship. In such a situation, the Australian team would like Starc to play in the Sydney Test match. He is counted among the deadliest bowlers in the world and has single-handedly won many matches for the Australian team. So far, he has taken a total of 373 test wickets in 93 test matches for the team.
Indian team needs victory to level the series
To level the series and keep alive the hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship, the Indian team will have to win the Test to be held in Sydney at any cost. In such a situation, if Mitchell Starc is unable to play due to injury, then there will be a big chance for the Indian team to win, because in place of Starc, Australia will have to field Jhye Richardson in the playing eleven. Who played his last test match in December 2021.
