Bhubaneswar, Sept 22 : The no-confidence motion filed by the Congress party was dismissed in the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Monday due to the expiration of the stipulated time. The Speaker of the House formally announced this decision, sparking a protest from the Congress MLAs.
In response to the rejection, several Congress legislators staged a noisy protest by raising slogans beneath the Speaker’s podium. They expressed their anger and disappointment over what they called an “undemocratic move” to silence the opposition.
The proceedings of the House returned to normalcy on Monday afternoon after days of disruption. Congress Legislature Party Leader Ram Chandra Kadam had formally urged the Speaker to accept the no-confidence motion for discussion.
He explained that he had issued instructions for the motion to be submitted to the House the following day. However, due to the continuous disorder in the Assembly, the notice could not be tabled as planned.
According to parliamentary procedures, the allotted time for initiating the motion has now passed due to the ongoing deadlock in the House. The Speaker, citing procedural limitations, announced that the no-confidence motion could no longer be entertained.
This decision angered the Congress members, who walked out of the Assembly in protest. Their dissatisfaction reflects the larger unrest within the opposition regarding the handling of Assembly proceedings and the Speaker’s role in maintaining neutrality and fairness.
