Agriculture Department holds meeting to prepare for possible rains

 

Bhubaneswar, October 22 : A meeting of the Agriculture Department was held today under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department, Dr. Arvind Kumar Padhi to prepare for possible rains and its management. The meeting was attended by Agriculture Director Shri Shubham Saxena, Director of Indian Meteorological Department Smt. Manorma Mohanty, OUAT Dean Dr. Prasannajit Mishra.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is no information about possible storms in the state so far. However, due to the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, there is a possibility of occasional scattered rains in some places of the state and especially in coastal Odisha, there is a possibility of thunderstorms. Accordingly, Agriculture Secretary Dr. Padhi has requested the farmers to follow the advisory of the Meteorological Department.

During the current Kharif season (June 1 to September 30), the state has received 100 percent normal rainfall and due to this, a good crop yield is expected. The department has advised the farmer brothers and sisters not to panic after hearing any misleading information. In case of need, farmers can contact 155333 or contact the nearest Regional Agricultural Research Center/Agriculture Officer. Senior officers of various departments were present in the meeting.
