Supreme Court Questions Report Blaming Pilot in Ahmedabad Air India Crash, Calls for Independent Probe

NewDelhi, Sept 22 : On June 12, a tragic Air India plane crash occurred in Ahmedabad, prompting legal scrutiny and widespread public concern. In response, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court seeking an independent investigation into the incident. The petitioner argued that a fair and transparent inquiry was necessary, especially given the severity of the crash and its potential implications for aviation safety in India.

During the court proceedings, the Supreme Court reviewed a report which attributed the cause of the crash solely to pilot error. However, the court expressed serious concerns over the credibility and thoroughness of the report. It stated that labeling the pilot as the only party responsible without sufficient evidence or a comprehensive inquiry was “highly irresponsible.”

The court emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in such matters, especially when lives are lost or put at risk. It observed that a deeper, independent investigation must be conducted to uncover the full truth including possible technical failures, procedural lapses, or systemic issues within the airline or aviation authorities.

This intervention by the Supreme Court is being seen as a crucial step toward ensuring justice for the victims and improving aviation safety standards in India. The demand for an independent probe could lead to broader reforms in how air crash investigations are conducted in the country.
