Bhubaneswar, 20, oct : As Diwali approaches, confusion regarding its exact date had created quite a buzz. Some almanacs mentioned October 21 as the day of celebration, while others pointed to October 20, leaving devotees in a dilemma.
However, the ambiguity has now been resolved.
According to the five almanacs officially approved by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration Raghunandan, Adinath, Madanmohan, Panjika Digbijayi, and Gopal Tathyansh this year, Diwali, Shyama Puja, Payashraddha, and Deepadaan will all be observed on October 20.
To address the conflicting reports, the Mukti Mandap Pandit Sabha of Puri held a press conference, clarifying that all associated rituals and celebrations should follow the temple-approved calendar, confirming October 20 as the correct date.
Why the Confusion?
According to proficients, the disagreement arose due to differing interpretations regarding the start and end time of the tithi (day). While some counted the tithi based on its presence during the day, others followed a system that extended into the night, thereby shifting the observance to the next day.
With official clarification now provided, the matter stands resolved Diwali will be celebrated on October 20 this year.
