Massive fire breaks out in train going from Ludhiana to Delhi, passengers injured but a major accident avoided

Sirhind, October 18 : A massive fire broke out in the Garib Rath train (Train No. 12204) going from Ludhiana to Delhi on Dhanteras on Saturday morning. As the train approached Sirhind station, smoke and fire were suddenly seen in coach no. 19, which was initially believed to be due to a short circuit.
The incident created panic in the train. Passengers screamed and alerted others. Seeing the smoke, a passenger immediately pulled the chain, due to which the train driver applied the emergency brake and stopped the train.
At this time, the passengers ran out of the coach with their belongings. Some passengers were injured in the commotion. A woman was burnt, but no one else was seriously injured.
After receiving the news of the fire, the railway and police teams immediately reached the spot and controlled the fire within an hour. The railway officials acted immediately and shifted the passengers to another coach.
The fire was controlled before the train reached Gondwathala, averting a major accident. Although the incident frightened the passengers, the alertness and quick response of the railway staff saved many lives.
The railways has launched an investigation into the incident. Officials said that additional steps are being taken to ensure the safety of the passengers.
