Hemant Soren Money Laundering Case: SC Rejects ED Plea Against Him
Jharkhand: Good news for Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren. The Supreme Court of India continued to exist on the previous hearing given by the High Court. The Supreme Court Monday upheld the bail granted to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren by the Jharkhand High Court in a money laundering case. The apex court was hearing the Enforcement Directorate’s plea challenging the bail granted to the chief of the JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) party. Soren’s lawyer had argued strongly for his bail, contending he was falsely implicated in a criminal case by the central agency. It is arguing that if he was released on bail, he might commit a similar offense. Before SC the High Court also said that Jharkhand CM had done nothing which is considered as unlawful. While granting bail at the High Court, the single-judge bench of Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay, said the court’s findings satisfy the condition that “there exist reasons to believe” that Soren is “not guilty” of the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002) offense he has been accused of. The court also said that “It has given valid reasons for why statements are contradictory,”. Adding to that it further said that the ED “might be in difficulty” if they proceeded with the hearing, “We don’t want to observe more; if we observe more, you (the ED) might be in difficulty,”
But on the other hand the ED is not happy with this decision of the Supreme Court.
