Last two-time champion Carlsen said on this development that I would like to live somewhere where the weather is better. FIDE said in a statement shared on Twitter that the dress code rules were developed by the members of the FIDE Athletes’ Commission, which consists of professional players and experts. These rules have been in place for years and are well known to all participants. They are informed about this before every tournament. It is clear in the long standing rules that wearing jeans is prohibited. The chief arbitrator admonished Carlson and fined him $200. He was requested to change his clothes which he did not agree to. Because of this he had to be disqualified.
Earlier, Grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia had also violated this rule but he returned after changing his clothes and hence he was not thrown out. Meanwhile, Carlsen said that he will not participate in the blitz class as he is fed up with FIDE’s dress code policy. He told Norwegian media that he was fed up with FIDE and could not tolerate it anymore. This is a very ridiculous rule. He could have changed his clothes tomorrow but he was not ready to listen.
