Vijayveer won the first 25 meter rapid fire pistol national title.
Punjab’s Vijayveer Sidhu won his first title in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol (RFP) pistol events at the 67th National Shooting Championship (NSCC) in New Delhi. Paris Olympian Vijayveer defeated fellow Olympian Gurpreet Singh of ‘Army Marksmanship Unit’ 28-25 in the final at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range.
Shivam Shukla of Air Force stood third with a score of 23. Vijayveer stood second in the qualification with 581 marks. He finished behind Ankur Goyal of Uttar Pradesh who scored 585 marks. Gurpreet announced after the final that this would be his last National Championship competition as he was turning to coaching. He managed to secure the sixth and final position with a score of 575.
In Junior Men’s RFP, Rajvardhan Ashutosh Patil of Maharashtra won the gold medal with 31 hits. He gave no chance to the remaining contestants with three consecutive perfect 5 hits in the fifth, sixth and seventh series. Suraj Sharma of Madhya Pradesh stood second while Abhinav Chaudhary of Rajasthan won the bronze medal. Asian Games medalist Vijayveer Sidhu had topped the men’s 25m centre-fire pistol event at the 66th National Shooting Championship in pistol events last year.
