Pakistan Cricket Team: Jason Gillespie had rejected the offer to become Pakistan’s coach for all formats. After this, Pakistan Cricket Board handed over the responsibility of interim coach for limited overs to National Selector Aaqib Javed. Now PCB has appointed Shahid Aslam as the batting coach of the national team after the Australia tour. Aslam has previously worked with the Pakistan team for many years as an assistant coach, fielding coach and assistant manager. He has been working as a coach at the High Performance Center in Lahore for the last two years.
Got the post on the recommendation of Aaqib Javed
Before Shahid Aslam, former Test captain Mohammad Yousuf was working as the batting coach of the national team but then he was made the national selector. However, Yusuf later left the post of selector and batting coach and started working at the High Performance Centre. Yusuf had also recently resigned from his post at the High Performance Center but the PCB rejected his resignation. Now, on the recommendation of Aaqib Javed, the interim coach of the limited overs team, Aslam has been made the batting coach.
Did not play even a single international match for Pakistan
55 year old Shahid Aslam has not played a single international match for the Pakistani team. He has taken 34 wickets in 17 first class matches in domestic cricket for Pakistan. He has taken 12 wickets in 16 List-A matches. Apart from this, he has also scored a total of 367 runs including three half-centuries in his first class career.
The Pakistani team still has to play a series of three ODIs and three T20 matches against Zimbabwe. The captain of the team for the ODI series is Mohammad Rizwan. The captaincy of the team for the T20 series has been handed over to Salman Ali Aga. Pakistan recently won the ODI series against Australia and had to face defeat in the T20 series.
