Mohammed Shami finally got a place in this team, squad was suddenly announced
Mohammed Shami was not made a part of Team India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. After this, he got a place in Bengal’s Ranji team, where he performed strongly. Now he has also been included in the Bengal team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. PTI had earlier reported that Shami’s inclusion in the Bengal T20 squad is part of a thorough assessment of his fitness, paving the way for his return to Team India.
Strong performance for Bengal
After recovering from an ankle injury, Mohammed Shami, returning to the competitive match after a gap of a year, performed impressively for Bengal in the Ranji match against Madhya Pradesh and took seven wickets to give his team the first win of the season. It is understood that the national selection committee did not want to take any risks by hastily including Shami in the Indian squad after just one Ranji Trophy match after completing an extensive rehabilitation programme.
People in the know said that the BCCI medical team and the national selectors want Shami to play a few more competitive matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to see whether his body is fine after so many matches, even if This should be a white ball tournament. Now if Mohammed Shami performs well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, then he can be included in the Indian team.
