India won 55 medals in Asia-Pacific Deaf Games, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya honored all the athletes.

India’s Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has honored the Indian team on its successful return from Kuala Lumpur on Monday. The team won 55 medals at the 10th Asia-Pacific Deaf Games, 11 times more than its previous participation in 2015. He had won 5 medals last time. The 68-member Indian team, including 42 men and 26 women, won 8 gold, 18 silver and 29 bronze medals and India finished fifth among 21 nations. Which is their best performance in the tournament since its first season in 1984.

India dominated in these games

Earlier, the Indian team had won 5 medals (2 gold, 3 silver) in the 2015 season in Taiwan. India was ranked 9th out of 23 countries. The 2019 season was canceled due to political unrest in Hong Kong. The Union Minister congratulated the Indian team, including the coach and support staff, during a special interaction at his residence. The Indian team won 28 medals (5 gold, 12 silver, 11 bronze) in athletics, which is their best performance so far. Apart from this, India has won 6 medals in badminton (3 silver, 3 bronze), 3 medals in chess (1 silver, 2 bronze), 7 medals in judo (2 gold, 5 bronze), 3 medals in table tennis (1 silver, 2 Bronze) and has won 8 medals (1 Gold, 1 Silver, 6 Bronze) in Wrestling.

SAI played an important role

Sports Authority of India (SAI) conducted discipline-wise training camps ahead of the Asia-Pacific Deaf Games for 68 athletes at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi, SAI NCOE Sonipat and SAI Regional Center Lucknow. SAI also provided financial assistance for travel and accommodation in Malaysia. Due to which there was a lot of improvement in the performance of Indian athletes.

These athletes performed brilliantly in the Asia-Pacific Deaf Games 2024

Priyanga Paramraj emerged as a prominent athlete in athletics, contributing significantly to India’s gold and silver medal wins. His ability to perform brilliantly in both individual sprint and relay events reflects his versatility and stamina. Similarly, Ridham Sharma’s gold medal in the relay event reflects his teamwork and endurance. Her silver medal in the 400m hurdles shows her proficiency in handling more technically challenging events.

Vineeth Mani has performed brilliantly in both individual and team events. Which proved his speed and consistency. His performance in the 400 meters was particularly notable, earning him a gold medal. Sanya Dongre also showcased her sprinting talent, winning gold in the women’s 4 x 100 m relay and bronze in both the women’s 100 m and 200 m, highlighting her consistent performance in the sprint.

In badminton, Jerlyn Anika Jayarachagan emerged as the top athlete, securing four medals. Silver in the mixed doubles and mixed team events, and bronze in the women’s singles and women’s doubles. His performance in singles and doubles events was quite amazing. Sumit Dahiya’s dominance in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling events is a testament to his strength, technique and versatility. His two gold medals highlight him as one of the finest performers in the wrestling discipline. Also in Judo, Milanmeet Kaur won a gold medal in the under 48 kg category and a bronze medal in the team women’s event, showcasing her skills in the individual and team competitions.
