Then the Indian team defeated Australia by an innings and two runs. In this match, the Indian spin trio (Bishan Singh Bedi, Bhagwat Chandrashekhar and Erapalli Prasanna) performed amazingly. The powerful Australian batsmen could not stand against these three spinners and together they took a total of 16 wickets.
Gundappa Vishwanath had scored a half century
Batting first, the Australian team scored a total of 131 runs in the match. After this, the Indian batsmen showed an amazing game and declared the innings at 396 runs. Gundappa Vishwanath (79 runs) and Karsan Gharvi (64 runs) scored half-centuries for India. Apart from these two, Syed Kirmani, Chetan Chauhan and Sunil Gavaskar also batted well. In the second innings, the Australian team could score only 263 runs and thus Team India was successful in winning the match.
Victory in Sydney will pave the way for the Indian team to level the series and enter the final of the World Test Championship. After this, to reach the final, India will have to depend on Sri Lanka and hope that the Sri Lankan team wins one and draws one in the two-Test series against Australia.
