IND vs PAK: India defeated Pakistan in the final and became champion of Junior Asia Cup for the third consecutive time.
Whenever India faces Pakistan on the playing field, the excitement level reaches its peak. Something similar was seen in the final matches of the Junior Asia Cup. In this final match played in Muscat, the capital of Oman, India defeated Pakistan 5-3 and won the title of Junior Asia Cup 2024. India has managed to win the Junior Asia Cup for the third consecutive time. Earlier, the Indian junior hockey team had captured this title in the year 2015 and in the year 2023.
The Junior Asia Cup 2024 started in Muscat from November 26 in which 10 teams participated. India had topped Pool A and made it to the semi-finals, while Pakistan had topped Pool B and entered the last-4. After this, Pakistan defeated Japan 4-2 to get the ticket to the final while India defeated Malaysia 3-1 to secure its place in the title match. There was a fierce competition between India and Pakistan in the final but in the end the Indian team was successful in winning the title 5-3.
Pakistan’s fourth consecutive defeat in the final
In the final match of Junior Asia Cup, 20 year old Arayjit Singh Hundal scored 4 goals for India while one goal came from the stick of Dilraj. Sufyan Khan scored 2 goals and Hanan Shahid scored 1 goal for Pakistan. This is Pakistan’s fourth consecutive defeat in the final of this tournament while it is the third consecutive defeat against India. Since 2012, Pakistan team has been losing in the finals.
This is India’s fifth title in the continental tournament. Earlier, India had won this title in 2004, 2008, 2015 and 2023. This tournament was not held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hundal converted three penalty corners in the fourth, 18th and 54th minutes and scored a field goal in the 47th minute. Another goal for India was scored by Dilraj Singh (19th minute). For Pakistan, Sufiyan Khan (30th and 39th minute) converted two penalty corners while Hannan Shahid scored a field goal in the third minute. Earlier, Japan defeated Malaysia 2-1 and secured third place.
