IND vs AUS: Former veteran angry over Australian team selection, said – selectors’ decision is completely wrong
IND vs AUS Test Series: Australia’s squad for the last 2 Test matches of the ongoing 5-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against India has been announced, in which some major changes have also been seen. Opening batsman Nathan McSweeney, who played in the first three matches, has not been selected for the last two matches, due to which former Australian captain Michael Clarke has expressed his anger over this decision of the selectors, calling it completely wrong. However, the start of his Test career was not at all good for McSweeney in which he managed to score only 72 runs with the bat in three matches. In place of McSweeney, Sam Kontas has been selected in the Australian team for the matches to be played in Melbourne and Sydney.
I can’t believe this decision
Regarding the selection of the Australian team for the last 2 Test matches against India, Michael Clarke said on Beyond 23 Cricket Podcast that I am not able to trust the decision to drop McSweeney. It doesn’t matter who will play in his place in the opening. I find this decision of the selectors completely wrong. We have Usman Khawaja who has turned 38 and has not done much in this series so far, apart from this Marnus Labuschagne is also looking under complete pressure while batting. Steve Smith definitely played a century in Gabba but he did not appear confident. Apart from McSweeney, most of the other players in the team are above 30 years of age. If Khawaja announces retirement after the last 2 matches of this series, will McSweeney be brought back again or will he have to wait longer. In such a situation, the selectors should clarify the entire situation.
These players joined the Australian team for the last 2 tests
While Sam Konstansa has been included in place of Nathan McSweeney, Sean Abbott, Jhay Richardson and Beau Webster have also been included in the Australian team for the last 2 matches of the series. The next match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played at Melbourne ground from 26th December i.e. Boxing Day, while the last match will be played at Sydney Cricket Ground from 3rd to 7th January.
