ICC fined the player even before the toss, he did not listen to the umpire
Many times in cricket, players have had to face fines from the ICC due to their poor discipline. Meanwhile, ICC has fined a player for a mistake committed before the start of the match. This player is none other than West Indies star player Alzarri Joseph. Alzarri Joseph had done something before the start of the first match of the ODI series against Bangladesh, due to which the ICC has now fined him.
What was the mistake?
The first match of the ODI series between West Indies and Bangladesh was played in St. Kitts and Nevis. Before the start of this match, he was walking on the pitch wearing spiked shoes. When the umpire refused him to do so, he argued with the umpire itself. Apart from this, he also abused the fourth umpire. Now, on the complaint of the umpire, he will have to pay 25% of the match fee as fine. This action was taken due to a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.
Broke ICC rules
Joseph violated Article 2.3 regarding the use of foul language. This is the first mistake on Joseph’s part in the last two years, due to which one demerit point has been added to his record. Joseph has admitted his mistake and agreed to pay the fine. Jeff Crowe, a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, has given him this punishment. There was no need for any official hearing for his actions.
This punishment is given in level 1
The on-field umpires during this entire incident were Kumar Dharmasena and Leslie Reifer. The third umpire was Asif Yaqoob and the fourth umpire was also Gregory Brathwaite. ICC has given its decision before the start of the third match of the series against Bangladesh. Level 1 violations include official warnings to players, deduction of match fees etc.
