Delhi: Thousands of people gathered in support of special athletes, ‘Run for Inclusion’ program organized

New Delhi: An amazing display of unity and purpose was seen in the country’s capital Delhi. ‘Run for Inclusion’ program was organized here. The event was organized by Special Olympics India (SOB) and saw participation from over 7000 enthusiastic participants from 150 educational institutions and other organizations across Delhi NCR.

The event is a launch for the upcoming Special Olympics Asia Pacific Bocci and Bowling competition, scheduled to begin on 18 November 2024 at Tyagaraja Sports Complex, New Delhi. The race was launched by Chief Guest Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State, Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, along with MPs Manoj Tiwari and Bansuri Swaraj, Dr Mallika Nadda, President, Special Olympics (SO India ) were also present on this occasion.

Event held in Chanakyapuri

Run for Inclusion was organized at Central Civil Services Ground, Chanakyapuri. On this occasion, people from all sections of the society and special athletes united through sports. More than 1000 special athletes participated in the event, symbolizing the unity and collective strength of sports. The main message of the program was Each One, Reach One, promoting a spirit of solidarity and inclusivity among all the participants.

Former cricketers Atul Wasan, Nikhil Chopra and cricket coach Gursharan Singh were also present on this occasion. Apart from this, Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State, Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India expressed his views.

He said, “I thank Special Olympics India and Mallika Nadda for organizing this amazing initiative where we all run together to promote inclusion, ensuring that our specially abled children are included in the society. Find your right place. This is in perfect sync with our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Fit India’, which will work towards making our society healthy and strong. I congratulate all the organizers of the Run for Inclusion.”

On this historic occasion, Dr. Mallika Nadda, President, SO India said, “I welcome all the honored guests to the Run for Inclusion program of Special Olympics India. Our motto should be inclusion and revolution. We are hosting the Asia Pacific Regional Games, which will feature bocce and bowling. This is the beginning of an important program in Delhi. I urge you all to participate and support our specially abled athletes.” On this occasion, Manoj Tiwari gave the message of We Will Be Successful through music.

The Run for Inclusion is the first milestone in a series leading up to the Asia Pacific Bocce and Bowling competition, which will see over 100 athletes from 12 countries participate. This historic competition is exclusively dedicated to athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), especially those aged 22 years and above, and is the first international competition of its kind to be held in India. There will be competition. Special Olympics India, in collaboration with Tenpin Federation of India, will introduce bowling as a competitive sport for special athletes.
