Big demand raised after India’s defeat, will there be this big change in the test format? Indian veteran raised his voice
Team India played a total of 5 test matches this time in its home season. First, Team India defeated Bangladesh in the 2-match test series. After this, it had to face 3-0 defeat against New Zealand. But during this period all the matches ended before 5 days. Recently, the last 2 test matches of the series played against New Zealand lasted for 3 days. Apart from this, the result of the first match of the series came out on the 5th day. But then the first day was completely lost to rain. In such a situation, this match was also played for 4 days. In view of all this, a former captain of India has given a big statement. This veteran believes that now the time has come when the test should be reduced from 5 to 4 days.
Indian legend’s big statement on test format
Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar believes that the time has come for the International Cricket Council to make Test matches four-day. Vengsarkar told The Times of India, ‘Test matches should be reduced to four days, as most of the matches end in less than four days. Also, most of the affiliate boards of the International Cricket Council, except India, Australia and England, are not in good financial condition, so four-day Test matches can bring some savings in their expenses.
Dilip Vengsarkar further said, ‘It is very expensive financially and very tiring for a team like West Indies to travel to the rest of the world for Test matches. Moreover, when the matches are ending in three days, it is inappropriate to sell tickets for five days. Let us tell you, out of the last 25 Test matches played in India, 12 ended within three days, while seven ended in four days. The Pink Ball Test between India and England in Ahmedabad could last only for two days.
Test matches should be held in big cities of India
Vengsarkar also said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India should organize Test matches in big cities and ODI-T20 in other centers across India. He said, ‘The support Mumbaikars gave to Test cricket was tremendous. They turned out in large numbers, even in an empty stadium, compared to other venues during this series. I think now the time has come that Test cricket should be organized only in Test centers like New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai. ODI and T20 matches can be organized at the remaining centres.
