Babar Azam: Babar Azam missed the world record by just 43 runs, could not get the job done after scoring a half-century
Babar Azam ODI Runs: In the third and last ODI, Pakistan defeated South Africa by 36 runs using Duckworth-Lewis method. Sam Ayub played a strong innings for Pakistan in this match. He scored 101 runs and played an important role in the team’s victory. Apart from them, captain Mohammad Rizwan and superstar batsman Babar Azam scored half-centuries.
Babar Azam scored 52 runs
The start of Pakistani team was very bad. When opener Abdulla Shafiq returned to the pavilion without opening his account. After this, there was a partnership of 114 runs between Babar Azam and Sam Ayub and both of them got the Pakistani team out of trouble. Babar scored 52 runs in 71 balls, which included 7 fours. He scored his 34th half-century in his ODI career.
Babar missed making a world record
If he had scored 43 more runs against South Africa, he would have completed 6000 runs in his ODI career and he would have made a world record of completing 6000 runs in the fewest innings, but he could not do so. So far he has scored 5957 runs in 120 innings of ODI cricket, which includes 19 centuries. Hashim Amla holds the record for completing the fastest 6000 runs in ODI cricket. He did this in 123 innings. Whereas Virat Kohli had completed his 6000 ODI runs in 136 innings. Babar still has a golden opportunity to overtake these two legendary batsmen.
Pakistani team did a clean sweep
Batting first in the third ODI against South Africa, the Pakistani team scored a total of 308 runs. After this the African team was all out for just 271 runs and lost the match by 36 runs using Duckworth-Lewis rule. Sam Ayub proved to be the biggest hero for Pakistan. He scored 101 runs in the match. Apart from him, Sufiyan Muqeem took four important wickets. Apart from winning the match, the Pakistani team has also made a clean sweep in the series.
