IND vs AUS: The third test match played between India and Australia at Gabba ended in a draw. Batting first, Australia scored 445 runs thanks to centuries from Steve Smith and Travis Head. In response, Team India’s first innings was reduced to 260 runs. After the first day of the third Test was washed out in rain, Australia batted brilliantly in the first innings, after which Team India faced the problem of follow-on, however, due to Ravindra Jadeja and Akash Deep, the Indian team managed to avert a major danger. After this, Australia declared its second innings at the score of 89/7 runs and gave India a target of 275 runs. India had scored eight runs without loss in 2.1 overs in their second innings on Day 5 when the tea break had to be taken early due to rain. After this the rain increased and no game could be played. In this way the match became a draw.

Ashwin announced retirement

After this match, Ravichandran Ashwin surprised everyone by suddenly announcing his retirement. R Ashwin was not a part of the playing-11 in the first Test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 but he got a chance to play in the day-night Test match played in Adelaide. After this, he was once again dropped from the playing-11 of the third match. In this way, Adelaide Test proved to be the last Test match of Ashwin’s Test career.

Amazing coincidence between Kumble and Ashwin

With Ashwin’s retirement, an era in Indian cricket came to an end. Ashwin, who made his Test debut in 2011, took 537 wickets in 106 Test matches. He became the second Indian bowler after Anil Kumble to take more than 500 wickets in Tests. Following in the footsteps of Kumble, Ashwin took a lot of wickets in Tests for India. An amazing coincidence was also seen in the retirement of both the bowlers. In fact, in the year 2008, Anil Kumble had also announced his retirement only after the third Test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy was drawn. Like Kumble, Ashwin’s retirement also came after the third Test was drawn. Not only this, Anil Kumble took his last victim in the form of Mitchell Johnson and Ashwin also took his last wicket in the form of Mitchell Marsh.
