After IND vs SA T20 series, ICC took a big step, took action against this player
The Indian team won the T20 series against South Africa 3-1 under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav. Sanju Samson, Tilak Verma and Varun Chakraborty performed amazingly for India in the T20 series. It is because of these players that Team India was successful in winning the series. Tilak scored a total of 280 runs including two centuries in the series and received the Player of the Series award. India won the fourth T20 match by 135 runs. In this match, South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee had protested against a decision of the umpire. After which ICC has now taken action against him.
Gerald Coetzee admitted his mistake
Gerald Coetzee was reprimanded for protesting against the umpire’s decision in a T20 International match. He made inappropriate comments after one of his balls was declared ‘wide’ by the umpire. The ICC press release stated that Gerald Coetzee was found guilty of breaching Rule 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Staff, which relates to protesting an umpire’s decision during a T20 International match. One demerit point was added to his disciplinary record. He admitted the crime and the punishment so no formal trial was required.
Ban is imposed if four demerit points are scored within 24 months
The minimum punishment for a level one violation is an official reprimand while the maximum punishment is 50 percent of the player’s match fee and one or two demerit points added to his account. When a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period they are converted to suspension points and the player is banned.
Gerald Coetzee did not perform well in the T20 series against India. He took only four wickets in four T20 matches. So far, he has taken 12 wickets in 10 T20 International matches for South Africa. He has 10 wickets in Test and 31 wickets in ODI in his name.
