AFG vs ZIM: The year 2024 is going to be a great year for the Afghanistan cricket team. In this year’s T20 World Cup, where the team had reached the semi-finals, for the first time it was successful in defeating the South African team in the limited overs format. Recently, Afghanistan defeated Zimbabwe 2-1 in the T20I series and now they have taken a 1-0 lead in the series by winning the second match of the ODI series. Earlier, the first ODI of the series was washed out due to rain. However, in the second match, Afghanistan performed brilliantly and created history by defeating host Zimbabwe badly.

Zimbabwe piles on shameful score

Actually, the second ODI match between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan was played on the grounds of Harare Sports Club. In this match, host Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved costly for the team. Batting first, Afghanistan scored 286 runs on the scoreboard after losing 6 wickets in 50 overs due to the brilliant batting of 23 year old young opener Sediqullah Atal and 26 year old Abdul Malik. Sediqullah Atal played an inning of 104 runs with the help of 8 fours and 4 sixes. Whereas, Abdul Malik scored 84 runs.

In response to this score of Afghanistan, Zimbabwe’s batting collapsed like a house of cards. Zimbabwe could not even play half the overs and were bundled out for just 54 runs in just 17.5 overs in the 50-over match. Only two batsmen from Zimbabwe could touch double figures. In this way, Afghanistan made a big record by winning the match by 232 runs. This is Afghanistan’s biggest win in terms of runs in ODIs.
