Bhubaneswar: Politics is in turmoil over the death of two people after eating mango kernel in Kandhamal. A Congress delegation has met the Governor of Odisha, Raghubar Das, blaming the state government’s incompetence for the incident. Shrikant Jena, Mohammed Mokim, Santosh Singh Saluja, Jaydev Jena and many other senior leaders have sought the Governor’s intervention in the incident.
While the government says that it will not let anyone go hungry under the food security scheme, Congress MLA leader Ramachandra Kadam has said that the Kandhamal incident is a disgrace to the state across the country. The Governor has promised to call the Chief Secretary to discuss the incident to know what action has been taken, the Congress MLA leader said.
On the other hand, the Food Supplies Minister yesterday responded by saying that mango kernel is their traditional food. No matter how much they are denied, they do not stop eating mango kernel. Sufficient rice was being provided. The Minister of Supplies refuted the allegations that they were eating mango kernel due to lack of food.
