Odisha Launches Transformative Folk Arts Campaign to Boost Awareness of Welfare Programs
Bhubaneswar: In a bid to enhance public awareness about the state government’s welfare programs, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled the Odisha Transformation Campaign through folk arts on Thursday. The initiative aims to leverage the rich cultural heritage of the state by involving approximately 22,000 folk artists from across Odisha. Over 2 lakh programs are set to be organized in 51,168 villages during the month-long campaign, utilizing traditional folk dance forms to convey information about government schemes.
Addressing the launch through digital mode, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik emphasized the significance of promoting folk artists and their contributions to the cultural fabric of Odisha. He highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting these artists, noting that the establishment of an artists’ association in Ganjam district in 2010 paved the way for further initiatives at the block level across all districts.
During an interactive session with the artists, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his familial connection with them, stating, “The artists are like members of my family. You keep on doing good works, and the government will continue to extend all possible support to you.”
The month-long campaign will witness the participation of artists showcasing various traditional folk dance forms, including Danda Nacha, Rasa, Sani Pala, Daskathia, Sankirtan, Ghoda Nacha, Mogal Tamasha, Prahllad Natak, Suang, Ramlila, Khanjani Bhajan, Kendara song, Bhratlila, Sambalpuri dance, and Ghumura dance.
Additionally, folk song programs representing Banda, Koya, Santali, and Dhemsa tribal communities will be integral to the campaign, presenting fact-based narratives during the performances. The artists, through their cultural expressions, will play a crucial role in disseminating information about various government schemes and programs.
Minister of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Aswini Patra, Secretary of the department Sujata Kartikeya Pandian, and 5T Chairman VK Pandian also shared their insights during the launch event, underscoring the importance of preserving and promoting Odisha’s diverse cultural heritage. As the campaign unfolds, it is poised to not only showcase the artistic brilliance of the state but also effectively communicate the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens through the medium of traditional folk arts.
