Odisha Braces for Hotter Days Ahead, IMD Warns of Rising Temperatures
Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional center has issued a warning indicating that Odisha is likely to experience hotter days starting from March 11. According to the midday bulletin released on Thursday, the mercury is expected to soar across the state, with daytime temperatures projected to rise by approximately 3°C to 4°C above normal.
The IMD highlighted that there will be little respite from the prevailing heatwave conditions, which are anticipated to affect all parts of Odisha. Currently, the state is witnessing a gradual increase in nighttime temperatures as well.
The weather forecast attributes the impending rise in temperatures to the activation of a high-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, leading to the retention of moisture in the atmosphere. Consequently, cloudy weather accompanied by light rainfall has been observed in certain areas of Odisha under the influence of this system. The IMD predicts that such weather patterns, including light to moderate rain or thundershowers, may persist in some places until March 10.
Recent weather observations indicate that light to moderate rainfall has already occurred in a few locations in north interior Odisha, while dry weather prevails in the rest of the districts. Additionally, shallow fog has been reported in Bhadrak in north coastal Odisha. Although maximum temperatures have seen a notable rise in some areas of north interior Odisha, minimal changes have been observed elsewhere. Furthermore, minimum temperatures have experienced appreciable fluctuations across different districts of the state.
As Odisha prepares for the onset of warmer weather conditions, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential impacts of the rising temperatures.
