Rare Coincidence In Bureaucracy

Kerala: Such a coincidence is rarely seen in bureaucracy. The wife got the same post from which the husband retired. The husband handed over the charge to the wife, made her sit on the chair and then was seen clapping for his wife. The case is of Kerala, Chief Secretary Dr. V. Venu retired on 31 August. After the retirement of Dr. V. Venu, his wife Sharda Muralidharan sat on this chair.

Kerala Chief Secretary Dr. V. Venu retired on 31 August. The interesting thing is that the post from which the bureaucrat retired, that post was given to his wife. After the retirement of Dr. V. Venu, the government has appointed Sharda Muralidharan as the Chief Secretary of the state. Now the wife has occupied the post from which the husband retired.

Sharada Muralidharan also has considerable experience in bureaucracy. She has been the Director General of Rural Livelihood Mission, Ministry of Panchayati Raj and National Institute of Fashion Technology with responsibility for rural development, poverty alleviation, women empowerment. Before becoming the Chief Secretary, she has been the Member Secretary of the Department of Planning and Economic Affairs, State Planning Board and Local Self Government Department of the Government of Kerala.

It is not that Sharda Muralidharan is the only woman who has occupied her husband’s position. Before this, after V Ramachandran, his wife Padma Ramachandran, after Babu Jacob, his wife Lizzie Jacob have also occupied this position, but in the cases of both of them, it was not the case that they got this chair as soon as their husbands left the post. Whereas Sharda Muralidharan has been handed over the charge by her husband Dr. V. Venu himself.
