Similipal Temporarily Closed Due to Heavy Rainfall

Bhubaneswar: Similipal National Park, a renowned biodiversity hotspot situated in the eastern state of Odisha, has been closed temporarily to visitors due to the prevailing heavy rainfall and dense foggy conditions. Sai Kiran, Deputy Director of Similipal North Wildlife Division, announced the closure as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of both tourists and the diverse wildlife within the park.

The decision to close the park comes in response to a persistent spell of heavy rainfall in the region, attributed to a high-pressure system formed in Chhattisgarh. Notable rainfall figures include 34.545 mm in Ramatirtha, 25.146 mm in Barehipani, 17.3 mm in Nawana, 17.4 mm in Chahala, 3.81 mm in Thakurmunda, 20.32 mm in Kendumundi, and 19.09 mm in Satkasia.

This closure is a vital step in safeguarding the delicate ecosystem of Similipal National Park. The continuous rainfall and dense fog create hazardous conditions for visitors, with reduced visibility and slippery trails posing potential risks.

During this temporary closure, park officials and wildlife experts will closely monitor the situation. The focus will be on mitigating any potential threats to the diverse flora and fauna that inhabit the park. Authorities have issued a visitor advisory, urging individuals to refrain from attempting to enter the park during this period.

Tourists who had planned visits are advised to reschedule or contact park authorities for further information on the reopening schedule. While the closure may impact the local economy, the priority remains on ensuring the welfare of the park’s wildlife and the overall conservation of the area.
