New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed the SIT probe petition in the electoral bond case. The court said that the SIT will not investigate the case. The court said, According to the law, this application should not be accepted. adding to that the court also said that the petitioner can go to the High Court against it.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer Prashant Bhushan said that this case is like the habala scandal and coal scam. In this case, not only the political parties but also the major investigation agencies are involved. This is the worst financial scam in the country, he stated. However, in response, the Chief Justice said that we have been ordered to disclose it. We have also canceled it.
The court said, “It will be both premature and inappropriate for the court to do so.” Earlier, in February the Supreme Court struck down the Narendra Modi government’s 2018 electoral bond scheme of anonymous political funding. Highlighting that “the information about funding to a political party is essential for a voter to exercise their freedom to vote in an effective manner”, a five-judge Constitution bench, headed by the Chief Justice of India.
The Supreme Court heard the petition related to the electoral bond and questioned the Election Commission. Later, the Election Commission informed they did not have any information. However, on March 14, the Election Commission made the electoral bonds public.
