Heartbreaking Twist: Finalist Vinesh Phogat Disqualified For Overweight

New Delhi: Twist in the Paris Olympics. Finalist Vinesh Phogat disqualified from the Paris Olympics. The shown reason is she could not make the weight on the morning of her 50 kg gold medal bout. “It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class,” the IOA said in a statement. “Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh’s privacy. I would like to focus on the competitions on hand.” Earlier, sources said the wrestler was roughly 100 grams over the permissible limits, which could lead to her disqualification. According to competition rules, wrestlers have to stay within their weight category on both days of the competition.

Vinesh became the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the gold medal bout in the event yesterday. “She was found to be overweight by 100 gm this morning. The rules do not allow this and she has been disqualified,” said an Indian coach on Wednesday.

Till yesterday it was confirmed that she had fixed her medal after so much hard work and struggle. Every Indian was expecting a Gold medal from Vinesh. But after this decision what will be the next? Now the question is if she was not fit for the appropriate category, then why the Olympics Association allowed her to play the previous matches where she qualified for the next matches. Indians are questioning the biased decision of the Association.
