New Delhi: The BJP-led NDA secured a majority in the Upper House after 12 members were elected to the state assembly unopposed on Tuesday. 9 members who could contest the referendum were elected unopposed, while 2 from the coalition won uncontested. As a result, the number of BJP members in the Rajya Sabha has increased to 96, while the number of NDA members has increased to 112.
With the support of six nominated members and one independent member for the ruling party, the NDA secured the required 119 marks for majority. The total number of members of the state assembly is 245, while 4 seats for Jammu and Kashmir and 4 elected member seats are vacant, now the number is 237. Among the BJP candidates who were elected unopposed to the state assembly, Mamata Mohanta from Odisha also in the list.
The ruling NDA did not have a majority in the state assembly for many years. Despite this, the government, with the support of various parties, was introducing important bills. Now that the ruling party has achieved majority, it will be easier to introduce the bill.
