When to go travelling?
The best time to visit here is from April to November. The weather here is pleasant from March to May and the temperature ranges between 10 degrees to 30 degrees. After that comes the monsoon season which starts from July and ends in October. Chopta receives snowfall from November to March and the minimum temperature remains between -15 degrees to 15 degrees. Snowfall starts in the month of November and increases day by day.
Must visit Tungnath Temple:
Most of the people visiting Chopta visit Tungnath Temple to have darshan of Lord Shiva. This is the largest Shiva temple in the world. There is no major stopping place from Chopta to Tungnath. While going here, make sure to keep enough water, trekking shoes, warm clothes, raincoat, sunscreen and first aid kit etc. on the way.
Apart from this, many people like trekking on the inaccessible roads here. The five kilometer uphill trekking is accessible only on foot. As you go up, this path gets better and wider.
How to reach Chopta?
To reach Chopta by air, you will have to land at Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. From the airport, the distance to reach Chopta is approximately 220 km which takes 9 hours to cover. Whereas, to go to Chopta by train, you can get down at Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh railway stations. If you are thinking of going by road, then first you will have to reach Dehradun and Haridwar from Delhi and then go to Chopta from there.
Keep these things in mind:
You may have to do a lot of trekking in Chopta, so keep light snacks with you to eat if needed. Carry walking sticks and waterproof trekking shoes for extra support as there is a possibility of slipping on ice.
