Bhubaneswar: Akash Das Nayak, former MLA and prominent actor, announced his resignation from the primary membership of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday, adding another layer of complexity to the political landscape of Odisha.
In a video statement released to the public, the actor-turned-politician cited personal reasons for his decision, stating, “I have decided to quit BJD after listening to my inner voice. I left the party for my self-respect and the respect of Korei residents. I will decide my next course of action after holding discussions with the residents of Korei and my supporters.”
Akash Das Nayak, who represented the Korei constituency in Jajpur district as an MLA from 2014 to 2019, had been hopeful of securing a BJD ticket for the upcoming elections. However, his aspirations were met with disappointment when he was denied a party ticket in the 2019 elections despite his contributions and leadership roles, including serving as the chairman of Mo College Abhiyan.
The decision to resign from the BJD underscores Nayak’s commitment to upholding his principles and maintaining the dignity of both himself and the residents of Korei. By choosing to engage in consultations with his constituents and supporters before determining his future political trajectory, Nayak demonstrates a thoughtful and deliberative approach to his next steps.
Nayak’s departure from the BJD adds another dimension to the evolving political scenario in Odisha, with observers keenly watching for potential realignments and alliances in the lead-up to the upcoming elections. As Nayak navigates the complexities of Odisha politics, his decision will undoubtedly influence the dynamics of the electoral landscape in the state.
