Bhubaneswar: After potato, now another shock to the consumer. While the price of potato is not decreasing, now the price of onion is increasing. Onion has touched Rs 50 per kilo. As a result, the customer is hit on the head.
When potato is 40 rupees per kilo, it will be reduced for a long time. But while onion was about 35 rupees per kilo, it has increased by 10 to 15 rupees per kilo within a day or two.
On the other hand, potatoes stored in the state will run out within the next 3 days. After this there may be another potato crisis in the state. Sudhakar Panda, General Secretary of the State Merchants’ Association, informed about this on Monday. West Bengal potato traders and cold store owners have threatened to strike. If the problem is not resolved by Tuesday, the supply of potatoes will stop. There may be shortage of potatoes again in the state.
The potato crisis cannot be completely eradicated from the state. Imports from West Bengal cannot be normal as potatoes cannot come in sufficient quantity from Uttar Pradesh. In this situation, some potatoes are coming from West Bengal through Jharkhand to Odisha. But that cannot be enough.
