Bhubaneswar: In a heartbreaking incident, at least three girl students lost their lives, and 11 others sustained critical injuries in a tragic collision between a bus carrying picnickers and a truck in the Daspalla area of Odisha’s Nayagarh district. The unfortunate accident occurred late on Friday night near Buguda on the Shalabhanga forest road under the jurisdiction of the Daspalla police station.
According to preliminary information, more than 50 students from a coaching centre based in Daspalla were en route to Harishankar and Nrusinghanath in Balangir district for a picnic when the bus collided head-on with a truck. The collision resulted in the tragic loss of three students’ lives and left several others injured.
The injured victims were promptly admitted to hospitals for medical treatment. Four individuals were sent to the Daspalla hospital, while seven others were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Nayagarh for further treatment.
Daspalla MLA Ramesh Chandra Behera reportedly visited the hospital to meet the injured students. As soon as the authorities were informed, a police team rushed to the accident site to conduct rescue operations. Nayagarh Superintendent of Police, Rahul Jain, also visited the hospital to assess the condition of the injured students.
