Odisha : Man sentenced to 10 years RI for raping married woman
Kendrapara, Oct 30 : Ad-hoc Additional Session Judge(Fast Track Special Court) of Kendrapada, Tribikram Keshari Chinhara on Monday sentenced a man to 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for raping a married woman.
According to the prosecution, Tapan Kumar Sahu of Ostapada village under Mancheswar Police station had raped a married woman on February 26, 2014 when her husband was not present in the house.
Tapan threatened the victim woman to kill her if she disclosed the matter to her husband or to the public.
He had even made an attempt to kill her husband on June 1, 2015 with the help of hired goons
When the woman became pregnant and delivered a baby, she disclosed the matter to her husband.
She later lodged an FIR against Tapan for raping her and making the mother of a child.
The Patkura police registered a case and arrested Tapan Sahu on September 19, 2015 .
The police conducted a DNA test of Tapan, the victim woman and her 9 months old child to ascertain the paternity of the child.
On September 20, 2015 Tapan was produced before the SDJM court which remanded him to jail custody.
While adjudicating the case, the court after verifying the evidence and cross examining 14 witnesses convicted Tapan and sentenced him to 10 years of Rigorous imprisonment along with a fine amount of Rs 10,000 under Section 376 of IPC.
The court ordered that if the convict failed to paythe fine amount, he would further go for another one year of Imprisonment.
